THE DEPARTMENT
Residence Life Team within University Housing Services (UHS). The Residence Life Team (RLT) is responsible for development and delivery of services and programs, in a residential experience that ensures the quality of life, well-being and personal development of residential students contributing to retention and academic success. This unit is responsible for establishing policy and procedure in the residential facilities, individual contact with residents, advising and facilitating student government, administering conduct, intervening in crisis, developing educational and programmatic efforts, and coordinating the safety and security of residents.

Duties and Responsibilities
Community Development

Support with the guidance of the Front Desk Attendants (FDA), Resident Advisors (RA), and Program Assistants (PAs) in the daily operations and emergency interventions of residential communities.

Assist Coordinators with student success support services and programs that improve retention and graduation rates for all CPP residential students.

Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents.

Utilize skills to encourage student success within the portfolio through programs, role modeling with students and staff. Support administrative operations of the department, including room assignments, occupancy reports, resident check-in/check-out, room changes, work requests, equipment check-out, etc.

Climb stairs (some residence halls do not have elevators) for emergency and crisis response.

Maintain thorough knowledge of and enforce University policy, UHS policy and UHS Housing License Agreement for residential students.

Residential Education Initiatives

Assist Resident Advisors and Program Assistants with program development, planning and implementation.

Assist with annual selection processes for Resident Advisors and Program Assistants.

Assist with educational campaigns, programming, trainings, and workshops for the residential community.

Network and collaborate with campus departments to develop, design, and implement programs that facilitate opportunities for interaction and dialogue with the campus community on student engagement, leadership, sense of belonging, and inclusive community practices that support the success of all residential students.

Responsible for understanding the expectations of professional staff, student leaders, front desk attendants, elected members of individual hall councils for each building/community, Resident Student Association (RSA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), and residential students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job‑related field; additional specialized experience may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.

Valid and in State Valid CA Driver's license with insurance.

Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level; graduate level education may be substituted.

Knowledge and abilities: Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Enrollment in a Higher Education/Student Affairs Master's program (or related field) is preferred.

Experience working with students from varied socioeconomic, educational, or cultural backgrounds in a residential, student services, or community-based setting is also preferred.

University Driving Requirements
Positions that require driving for university business by using a personal or state vehicle must comply with the Authorized University Driver Policy. Driving records are monitored and evaluated by the Risk Management Department. The Risk Management Department evaluates a good driving report based on the following criteria. The driver must: 1) Have a valid California or other State Driver’s license. 2) Have no more than 3 motor vehicle violations or been the cause of 3 accidents in a 12-month period (or any combination of 3 thereof). 3) Not have more than 3 DMV Points, if their license is Class C or, 4) Not have more than 5 DMV Points, if their license is Class A, B, or C with endorsements.
