Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Volunteer Services Program Manager to lead our volunteer efforts. In this role, you will cultivate a dedicated volunteer community, ensuring that our volunteers are meaningfully engaged in achieving our mission.
Qualifications
Design, plan and implement recruitment strategies to engage volunteers as needed at Safe Hands Rescue.
Recruit and lead a team of volunteers to receive and review applications, conduct phone or in person interviews, select which candidates to engage and make good matches between applicant’s skills and volunteer role needs. Fill in as necessary.
Schedule and provide Orientation for new volunteers either directly or by engaging volunteer support for this function.
Work with staff and volunteer leads to develop training for all volunteer roles.
Actively communicate with volunteers to provide protocol or policy updates, program changes, Safe Hands Rescue news or other pertinent information.
Work with staff and volunteer leads to address and resolve volunteer questions, concerns, complaints and/or additional training needs. Provide constructive and positive feedback to volunteers.
Lead corrective action if issues arise with individual volunteer performance that is not able to be resolved by the departmental lead or supervisor.
Work with organization leadership to guide development of new volunteer roles that will meaningfully engage volunteers in mission related work as new programs and needs arise.
Develop systems to track meaningful data and statistics within the volunteer program areas.
Support and promote meaningful recognition and appreciation programs and actions for volunteers.
Support and promote the development of a positive and welcoming environment for all volunteers that values collaboration and teamwork.
Work with organizational leadership on the continued maintenance, development and expansion of the volunteer program.
Work with Development Manager and Events Lead to develop systems to recruit and manage volunteers for special events.
Be familiar with day to day aspects of rescue operations in order to understand volunteer participation in programs and answer or refer questions to others appropriately.
Be a good ambassador for Safe Hands Rescue. Be positive, friendly and welcoming.
Specific Responsibilities/Tasks
Prior experience creating and implementing volunteer programs and training.
Positive attitude and friendly demeanor and ability to talk with people easily and respectfully.
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Good collaborative, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to supervise the work of others.
Proven leadership and team building capabilities.
Computer proficiency with access to a computer, email, social media, smart phone for use with this role.
Ability to effectively work with diverse groups of individuals.
Interest in and some knowledge of animal welfare issues as it relates to companion animals.
Must be able to handle the emotional aspect of work in an animal welfare environment.
