General Description
Assist the classroom teacher with teaching and non‑teaching functions.
Essential Functions
Work with students individually and in small groups.
Aide students with their tasks, read to students, and conduct activities that maintain previous teaching.
Help students move from one activity to another in the classroom.
Assist with seatwork.
Assist with supervision of youngsters during recess, restroom breaks, and related activities.
Help children with programmed materials.
Assist teacher with checking of individual skills of children.
Play learning games.
Assist students who were absent to make up work.
Respond to students in a kind, fair, and interested manner.
Explain school rules to children.
Aide students with getting in and out of wearing apparel and footwear.
Prepare materials for class projects.
Assist in maintaining bulletin boards.
Prepare masters for copying.
Copy materials for class.
Grade papers.
Distribute communiqués to be sent home with the children.
Compile and maintain inventory records.
Give medication to children.
Take daily attendance and lunch count; collect lunch and milk money.
Make school‑related non‑confidential telephone calls for the teacher.
Assist the teacher in supervision of various classroom activities, field trips, and related events.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
Help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
Conduct other related educational assistant duties as assigned by the principal and/or local superintendent and as permitted by the negotiated agreement.
Additional Working Conditions
Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue.
Occasional interaction with unruly children.
Terms of Employment
Salary and work year to be established by the board.
Salary:
$15.28 to $16.35 per hour
