Key Responsibilities include preparing, gross description, and dissecting surgical pathology specimens, as well as performing postmortem examinations under the direction of licensed pathologists. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced setting.
Required Skills:
Certified Pathologists' Assistant (ASCP) certification is mandatory; equivalent certifications are not accepted.
Knowledge of Hospital Information System (HIS) and Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Familiarity with laboratory instrumentation relevant to pathology.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently with sound judgment and initiative.
Attention to specimen collection, labeling accuracy, and safety protocols.
Flexibility to adjust schedules and work additional hours or shifts as needed.
Capable of maintaining focus and accuracy during extended periods, including stressful situations.
Nice to Have Skills:
Experience with postmortem examinations.
Prior exposure to emergency lab procedures.
Advanced knowledge of laboratory safety standards and protocols.
Proficiency in handling histopathological specimens with precision.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Certified Pathologists' Assistant (ASCP) certification required.
Previous experience in a hospital or clinical pathology environment preferred.
Other Requirements:
Reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be considered; residency within that radius disqualifies consideration.
Ability to provide and verify requested time off during the assignment (up to 5 days preferred).
Availability for an 8-hour non-billable orientation.
Hourly pay rate of $71.02.
Flexibility for holiday shifts, with overtime multipliers at 1.25x.
