Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Systems Operation and Policy Bureau (SOPB) Chief (DESA II), the Program Services Section Chief (DESA I) plans, organizes, and directs the activities of a key program Section. The incumbent provides direction in the analysis and evaluation of federal workload and production reports. The DESA I directs staff responsible for the development and interpretation of program policies and procedural guidance; coordination/liaison with the medical community and other providers of evidence; and sensitive correspondence with other agencies, legislators, claimants and others. Oversees legislative analysis on disability program issues.
Directly supervises, coordinates, and evaluates the activities and performance of Associate Government Program Analysts (AGPAs) and Disability Evaluation Analyst IIIs (DEA IIIs).
Employees are involved in a variety of highly diverse program activities such as program analysis and evaluation, policy development and interpretation, coordination and direction of medical studies, procedures development, operations support for field branches, and workload equalization among the federal branches.
Act as liaison to the Social Security Administration’s Regional Office on issues regarding federally mandated special studies, management information and policy/procedural guidelines and directions generated by the federal component.
Directs the review and analysis of state and federal legislation.
Directs the review and analysis of proposed policy and procedural changes, by the Social Security Administration, to determine impact upon the Division and to provide guidelines for all operational components within the Division.
Acts as a liaison with the CDSS Legal Division’s attorney assigned to provide consultation and guidance on DDSD issues.
