Job Title: Registered Nurse – CCU

Location: Renton, WA | Department: Critical Care | Shift: Days

Position Type: Full Time, 0.9 FTE | Salary Range: $46.94 – $85.76/hr (DOE)

Job Overview
The staff RN is a licensed professional who assumes responsibility for a group of patients in the critical care unit. The RN provides safe, quality care using the nursing process as the basis for clinical practice.

Responsibilities

Assess, guide, direct, and facilitate workflow on the unit.

Make staff assignments that reflect patient acuity, care continuity, staff competency, and unit activity.

Mentor staff, float, and agency personnel on unit policies, procedures, and standards.

Integrate new staff into the unit culture and serve as a role model for clinical staff.

Act as a clinical resource, demonstrating safe use of patient-care equipment and teaching others.

Identify appropriate RN resources for LPN, PCA, and MST staff.

Monitor and evaluate nursing care through direct observation, consultation, and patient rounds.

Assess unit environmental safety and report/correct deficiencies.

Maintain awareness of Joint Commission standards, state codes, and practice acts; monitor documentation compliance.

Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and respond to patient and family concerns.

Report significant events to supervisors and activate the chain of command per policy.

Provide input into performance appraisal of clinical staff during the shift.

Evaluate and provide adequate coverage for breaks.

Maintain fiscal responsibility by monitoring staffing and determining needs for the following shift.

Communicate and collaborate with bed placement and clinical resources for expedited placement.

Maintain personal competency for direct patient care and team leadership.

Physical/Mental Demands
Safe patient handling, including lifting from floor to overhead levels and carrying up to 40 lbs. Requires stooping, bending, reaching, crouching, squatting, and extended standing/walking. Ability to operate lifting equipment and use patient handling devices safely.

Prerequisites

BSN preferred.

Current RN license in Washington.

Successful completion of a graduate nurse residency program or 6 months’ RN experience.

AHA BLS required.

Preferred for Advancement to Charge Nurse

BSN.

A minimum of two years’ clinical nursing/leadership experience.
