Job Responsibilities
Responsible for assisting nursing personnel in giving quality care to patients in the operating room. Performs duties and responsibilities of a scrub person under the direction of a registered professional nurse. Assists in obtaining supplies, equipment and opening of operating and other rooms, as necessary. Breaks down setup and prepares instruments for sterilization. Helps transfer patients to the recovery room and cleans and restocks the operating room.

Principal Accountabilities

Checks and gathers all instruments for each case in assigned room with use of surgeon's preference card.

Checks sterility tapes, dates, and integrity of wrappers.

Opens sterile supplies for assigned cases, maintains a sterile field, and takes immediate action to correct any breaks in technique.

Performs surgical scrub techniques and gown and glove procedures for self and surgical team.

Arranges instruments, basins, sutures, and software in a precise manner for accurate count after the completion of surgical procedures.

Assists circulating nurses with counts of all sponges, cottonoids, needles, vessels loops, umbilical tape, penrose drains, and other devices and instruments.

Uses all devices and instruments appropriately and performs the standard draping technique.

Passes instruments to surgical team in a safe and efficient manner.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program.

3-5 years of experience as a Scrub Tech in a Hospital Setting.

BLS required.

Preferred

Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or related field.
