Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain, troubleshoot, evaluate, and repair electrical systems such as generators, normal power distribution, emergency power distribution, lighting, control panels, and electrical connections to equipment. The position assists other shops with the availability of electrical power and the troubleshooting of equipment.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality. Evidence that demonstrates your knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen‑out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements: Electric Drawings, Electrical Equipment Technical Practices (Electrical/Electronic), Troubleshooting (Electrical), Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work), and without more than normal supervision.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A full year of work is considered to be 35‑40 hours per week. Part‑time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
Perform preventative maintenance inspections and tasks on electrical systems and related components to determine wear, reliability, and load capabilities.
Install, modify, repair, and maintain distribution panels, boxes, generators, and various electrical systems.
Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and/or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, or fixtures using proper tools.
Use proper techniques and knowledge of electrical wiring and equipment maintenance.
Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
Follow installation, maintenance, and repair manuals to accomplish assigned tasks.
Interpret and apply manufacturer’s handbooks, technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to determine material, tools, and equipment needed.
Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.
Use a variety of tools or equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment including oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools or power tool.
Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes.
Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
Troubleshoot circuits, controls, and systems to locate, repair, and replace defective components.
Preferred to have a valid Journeyman (not residential) electrical license from the state of Arkansas or a reciprocal state.
Work schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm – subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Physical Requirements: Incumbent will perform some duties that require considerable physical effort, such as installing or repairing light fixtures, speakers, exit and signal lights, etc., while standing on a ladder, installing conduit above ceilings or beneath floors, pulling large conductors, and handling large motors, pumps, compressors, and fans.
