Job Summary
Cox Fleet is hiring a
Shop Trailer Mechanic II . This is a dedicated on‑site shop position with no roadside emergency work. The Technician II will perform certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light repairs, and a variety of specialized tasks such as aluminum and chem‑lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. Under the supervision of a Sr. Shop Trailer Technician or higher, the Technician II will learn advanced mechanical skills and assist senior technicians with repairs.
Responsibilities
Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
Determine parts required for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department to obtain them.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment; assist in cleanup at the end of each day.
Apply knowledge acquired through formal training or on‑the‑job experience to perform work; work with, understand, and evaluate technical information related to the job.
Work with the Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks and prioritize work activities and time allocations.
Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality and professional standards.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards and upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company‑issued device or Karmak application.
Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
Communicate with the Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Participate and complete all company‑required safety training.
Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks; conduct safety checks and daily pre/post‑trip inspections.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, brake systems, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and steering systems.
Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
Identify problems, determine the accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
Assist Shop Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or any combination such as a degree/certification beyond HS plus 5 years’ experience).
Possess a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
OEM training and certifications are preferred.
Participate in and complete all company‑required training.
Must successfully complete a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical; otherwise a DOT physical will be required.
Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority regulations.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.
Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Compensation
