Position Overview
Act as a liaison between the department and external instrumentation companies. Coordinate service, maintenance, and equipment support. Oversee the use of scientific instruments by students, faculty, and staff in teaching laboratories and departmental facilities, ensuring safe and effective operation. Train users on proper instrument usage and care, conduct annual inventory assessments, provide technical support for instructional projects or small‑scale research, and teach one course or its equivalent per semester (Chemistry, Physics, or science for non‑majors). Additional responsibilities may be assigned to support the department's educational mission.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field and two years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to maintain the security and integrity of critical organizational infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with benchtop NMR, GC/MS, UV‑Vis, FTIR, HPLC, TGA/DSC, MP‑AES, PCR, and fluorescence spectrometry.
Diagnostics and repair experience with laboratory instrumentation.
Strong PC skills, including Microsoft Office.
Ability to teach one course per semester.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working at an academic institution with multiple departments.
Prior teaching experience in Chemistry, Physics, or science for non‑majors.
Job Duties
Coordinate service, maintenance, and equipment support with external vendors.
Supervise the safe use of scientific instruments by students, faculty, and staff.
Train users and implement experiential learning initiatives.
Conduct annual inventory assessments.
Provide technical support for instructional projects and small‑scale research.
Promote and maintain a safe working environment.
Teach one course or its equivalent per semester.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the department’s educational mission.
Maintain working knowledge of equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and related processes.
Deliver effective presentations and instruction on laboratory techniques, equipment use, software, and safety rules.
Supervise work performed by others.
Physical Requirements
Communicate with others.
Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
Moving within tight and confined spaces.
Repeating motions involving wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
Sedentary work primarily involving sitting/standing.
Environmental Hazards
No adverse environmental conditions expected.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm
