Equipment Technician II
Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Shop Supervisor, assists the Equipment Mechanics with repairs of HTA and contract equipment. Performs minor and some major repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment as assigned.
Responsibilities
Provide vehicle servicing including oil changes, chassis lubrication, and component lubrication in line with the preventive maintenance program.
Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; assist mechanics with repairs as requested, including some major repairs.
Perform maintenance, diagnosis, and repairs to HVAC/Air Conditioning systems in commercial vehicles.
Diagnose engine and transmission codes using diagnostic tools.
Assist with road calls and replacement of vehicles for revenue service.
Perform pre-trip inspections on back-up buses on a daily basis.
Diagnose defects in brake systems and perform necessary repairs.
Advise the equipment manager on the need for parts and supplies.
Conform with regulations governing hazardous materials use and disposal; follow HTA’s Spill Pollution Prevention Plan.
Assist with annual inventory; help clean shop area and maintain a clean work area daily.
Assist in facility maintenance such as gates, bus washing, building repairs, etc.; perform related duties as assigned.
Maintain a valid Class B driver license with a passenger endorsement.
Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or related field.
Completion of an accredited apprenticeship or formal training program in vehicle maintenance and repair.
3–5 years of experience performing vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably with buses or heavy-duty equipment.
Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
Experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) on commercial vehicles.
Familiarity with HVAC/Air Conditioning systems in commercial vehicles.
Demonstrated experience diagnosing engine and transmission codes using diagnostic tools.
Experience adhering to safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with road calls, on-site repairs, and vehicle replacement in revenue service.
Knowledge of system diagnostics and repair.
Basic facility maintenance experience, including minor building repairs and shop cleaning.
Experience managing parts inventory and providing recommendations for replacement/ordering.
Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of mechanics and operations personnel.
Prior exposure to workplace safety programs, Spill Pollution Prevention, or environmental compliance initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge:
Vehicle systems including engine, transmission, brakes, A/C, and chassis components; preventive maintenance procedures and schedules; diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting; safety and hazardous materials regulations; basic facility maintenance.
Skills:
Perform repairs on commercial vehicles; conduct preventive maintenance; diagnose and repair A/C, engine, transmission, and brake systems; operate Class B CDL vehicles; use diagnostic software; communicate effectively; organize work and prioritize tasks; read and follow technical documents and safety procedures; demonstrate professionalism and safety.
Abilities:
Collaborate with mechanics; follow safety protocols and HTA policies; respond to road calls and emergencies; work independently or in a team; maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace; lift up to 50 pounds independently and 100 pounds with assistance.
Physical Requirements
Must pass a DOT physical and maintain ongoing qualification standards.
