Why This Role Exists
This role exists to support aerospace manufacturing and repair programs requiring precision turning of rotating components. At Barnes Aerospace, this position plays a key role in machining complex parts on VTL and lathe equipment, ensuring performance, reliability, and compliance with aerospace standards.
The Work You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will:
Perform complex setups and operate CNC and/or manual VTL and lathe machines
Support both production and NPI (New Product Introduction) work with minimal supervision
Machine rotating aerospace components, including parts with plasma coatings and K/E seals
Make program edits and process adjustments to meet part specifications
Read and interpret blueprints, operation sheets, and machining instructions
Verify dimensions using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, depth gages, height gages, and verniers
Work with engineering teams to optimize machining processes, tooling, and setups
Detect and report machining issues, material concerns, or quality deviations
Maintain safety, quality, and production standards
Provide guidance and training to other machinists as needed

Coated aerospace components (plasma coatings, K/E seals)
What We’re Looking For
Required
3–5+ years of machining experience in an aerospace environment
3+ years of experience setting up and operating VTLs and/or lathes
Strong math skills and understanding of GD&T
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and operation sheets
Experience machining tight-tolerance components
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
Ability to work in a team-based manufacturing environment
Preferred (Not Required)
Experience machining plasma coatings and K/E seals
Experience with Mazak, Mori Seiki, or Leblond machines
Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Willingness to learn CNC programming
