Position Summary
The PT Specialist III, Academic Advising provides advice and information to others, ensuring that system policies and practices surrounding Student Services functions are implemented correctly by others. The role provides academic advising to students and operational support within the department.
Essential Job Functions
Advise students on appropriate course selection and counsel on semester course load and workload.
Assist students in determining course transferability to state, public, and private institutions.
Determine proper course of action for student conflicts on course scheduling, degree plans, and transfer equivalency.
Provide basic financial aid information for new, transfer, and returning students.
Listen to student concerns and determine if referral to other departments is necessary.
Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency with standard office equipment and software applications.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to ensure compliance with due dates, deadlines, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to transfer knowledge to peers, subordinates, and higher authorities.
Ability to work on multiple projects.
Physical Abilities
The work is sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required.
Work Schedule and Conditions
Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone, and general office equipment.
Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position.
Work is performed in a climate‑controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate's degree.
Previous experience in Admissions, Advising, or Financial Aid at a college.
Salary
Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60.
