Job Description
There are two categories of Caseworker within the Children and Youth Services Department:
Intake Caseworker : Investigates and assesses reports and referrals in a timely manner, determining whether to mark them as unfounded or accept a family for services designed to prevent abuse.
Ongoing Caseworker : Coordinates and continually assesses services to maintain children in their natural home or reunify them, and simultaneously plans for permanent alternatives if the natural home is unsafe.
The holder of either position works cooperatively with other Caseworkers, Clerks, Aides, and Supervisors to provide the best possible outcomes for children and families across the County.
Work Schedule and Benefits
Full‑time employment.
Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch.
Occasional nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
Competitive starting wage: $41,281.50 annually; medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, 14 paid holidays, and a pension plan.
No telework option for this position.
Qualifications
Two years of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 and two years of college‑level coursework including 12 credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or related social sciences; or
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 12 credits as above; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 credits and one year as a County Social Services Aide 3 or similar paraprofessional case management role.
Applicants considered met educational requirements if within two months of graduating with a qualifying degree or credits.
Other Requirements
PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
Must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal and Administrative Requirements
A conditional offer of employment requires a drug screening.
Background check: Submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
