IT Field Technician | Brownsville, TX | 6 month contract
We are seeking a hands‑on
IT Field Technician
to support and maintain our network infrastructure across multiple sites. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in the field, solving technical problems, and building reliable connectivity from the ground up.
You’ll focus on
network fundamentals, structured cabling, Wi‑Fi deployments, and on‑site technical support
to ensure users stay connected and systems run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Networking & Infrastructure
Install, configure, and troubleshoot network hardware including switches, routers, and firewalls
Perform basic network configuration (IP addressing, VLANs, DHCP, DNS, connectivity testing)
Diagnose and resolve wired and wireless connectivity issues
Support network upgrades, expansions, and site deployments
Structured Cabling
Install, terminate, label, and test Cat6/Cat6A/fiber cabling
Install patch panels, racks, cable pathways, and network closets
Use cable testing and certification tools to verify performance
Maintain accurate documentation of cable runs and network diagrams
Wi‑Fi & Wireless Surveys
Conduct wireless site surveys for new and existing environments
Assist with wireless access point installation and placement
Optimize coverage, signal strength, and performance
Troubleshoot interference and connectivity issues
Field Support
Provide on‑site technical support for end users and network equipment
Respond to service tickets and urgent connectivity issuesCoordinate with vendors and internal IT teams during deployments
Travel between sites as needed
Required Qualifications
2+ years of hands‑on IT or networking experience
Experience with structured cabling installation and testing
Basic understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, DHCP, DNS
Switching and routing basics
Experience installing or troubleshooting wireless networks
Ability to lift equipment and work in ceilings, ladders, and IDF/MDF spaces
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally
