Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Controller
to join our leadership team. This is a key role for a mission driven finance professional who enjoys partnering with school leadership and the Board to ensure strong financial stewardship in support of students, families, and educators.
The
Controller
oversees all aspects of the school’s financial operations, including nonprofit fund accounting, budgeting, audit preparation, and board reporting. You’ll work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Head of School, and Board Finance Committee and play a strategic role in long-term financial planning. Our Bothell campus is conveniently located off I-405, just north of State Route 522. This full-time, year-round position starts July 1, 2026, with expected work hours of Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with the flexibility to work on the occasional evening.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting and nonprofit fund accounting
Prepare financial statements, annual budgets, and forecasts
Lead annual audit and IRS Form 990 preparation
Partner with the Board and Finance Committee on reporting and strategy
Oversee internal controls, cash management, and financial policies
Support tuition revenue tracking and enrollment-based forecasting
Engage positively with the wider school community and collaborate actively across departments and program levels with a can-do attitude.
Ideal Background
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; master’s degree preferred.
7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
Strong nonprofit accounting experience (education or schools a plus)
Experience working with boards and external auditors
CPA or advanced accounting credentials preferred
Collaborative, hands-on approach and strong communication skills
First Aid/CPR certification, TB test, and successful national/state background checks.
Salary & Benefits
Salary range is $125,000 – $140,000 (DOE). Benefits include health, dental, vision, Long-Term Disability, life, and supplemental insurance, paid time off, 403b retirement plan, professional development allowance.
