The Employment Development Department (EDD) is one of the largest state departments, serving millions of job seekers and employers across California.
Job Description and Duties
Conduct comprehensive criminal investigations and identify activities that support fraud prevention, detection, and deterrence.
Investigate allegations and suspected violations of the Unemployment Insurance Code, and other applicable laws and regulations related to fraud or misconduct.
Perform surveillance and undercover operations, skip tracing, and locate, interview, and interrogate informants, witnesses, and suspects.
Develop and serve search warrants on multiple premises, businesses, vehicles, etc.; conduct searches and seizures of computers.
Gather and preserve evidence; provide technical assistance to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
Write detailed investigative reports outlining the crime committed, facts of the case, witnesses, and exhibits of proof.
Make arrests and testify in court when required.
May travel throughout California and, upon authorization, out of state.
Perform peace officer duties while conducting primary investigations for the EDD.
Qualifications
Completion of a POST-certified Regular Basic or Specialized Investigators' Basic Course (SIBC).
Completion of the Investigation Division's Investigator Field Training Program within one year of appointment.
Maintenance of continuing professional training: at least 24 hours of POST-qualifying training every two-year cycle.
Valid California driver’s license.
Successful completion of a background investigation, medical examination, and psychological evaluation.
Special Requirements
Background investigation clearance prior to hire.
Medical clearance prior to hire.
Psychological evaluation clearance prior to hire.
Ability to perform peace officer duties and comply with all POST requirements.
