Senior Mechanic

Summary
This position repairs, alters, constructs, modifies, and uses all acceptable methods and practices to provide routine and preventative maintenance in a normally acceptable fashion established by supervision.

Responsibilities

Work from verbal and written orders, sketches, drawings and manufacturer specifications.

Perform programmed and preventative maintenance; install, lubricate and repair machinery, mechanical and other equipment.

Lay out, construct, alter and repair buildings and grounds, including partitions, doors, floors, concrete forms, plumbing fixtures, etc., using plumbing, masonry, carpentry, refrigeration, electricity, gardening, yard and grounds maintenance skills.

Use necessary tools, machines and equipment pertinent to the work performed.

Work alone or with more experienced personnel; instruct and help less experienced personnel as needed.

Handle discrepancies and variations from regular systems or procedures as they arise.

Maintain records and perform other duties as required.

Other Duties
Must be familiar with and comply with all governing agencies, e.g., TJC, MIOSHA, Michigan Department of Community Health, Fire Marshal, codes, regulations and procedures pertaining to overall maintenance operations such as refrigeration, building, electricity, powerhouse, fire and safety.

Credentials

Driver’s License.

Skills & Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Two years’ experience in mechanic classification required.

Ability to test, operate and repair mechanical and electrical equipment and systems.

Ability to interpret prints, schematics, specifications and codes.

Ability to work indoors or outdoors in all weather.

Ability to handle stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief and death.

Competence in Microsoft Windows required; may be required to participate in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health.

Physical & Mental Requirements

Must wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes.

Can move freely about the facility with or without an assisted device; must perform all functions of the job as outlined.

Vision and hearing necessary.

Frequent sitting, standing and walking required; may require stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Exposure to blood borne pathogens; must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements.

Handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular attendance and stay awake during shifts.

Physical demand heavy: occasional lift 51-100 lbs, frequent lift 50 lbs, constant lift and push/pull 20 lbs.
