Position Overview
Thomas College is seeking a detail‑oriented and collaborative
Senior Accountant
to support the financial operations of the College. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting and is actively involved in month‑end close, reconciliations, audit preparation, and financial analysis. The Senior Accountant will also support grant accounting, compliance, and process improvements across the institution.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & General Ledger Management
Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions
Prepare journal entries and monitor revenue and expense activity
Month‑End Close, Reconciliations & Reporting
Perform monthly close processes, including account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations
Prepare financial reports and assist with financial statement preparation
Grant Accounting & Restricted Funds
Track and report on grant‑funded activity and ensure compliance with donor and regulatory requirements
Monitor grant budgets and expenditures in collaboration with program managers
Audit, Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
Support annual audits and prepare schedules and documentation
Assist with regulatory reporting including Form 990, IPEDS, FISAP, and other required filings
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
Assist with budget development and financial forecasting
Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve performance
Systems & Process Improvement
Support financial systems, chart of accounts maintenance, and asset management
Participate in system upgrades and process enhancements
Collaboration & Support
Partner with departments across campus to provide financial guidance and resolve discrepancies
Provide training and support on accounting processes and systems
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required, Master's preferred
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience with month‑end close and reconciliations
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education or non‑profit accounting
Grant accounting experience and familiarity with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
