Job Summary for Field Service Technician
As a Field Service Technician, you’ll be the go‑to expert for on‑site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of Caterpillar (CAT) Power Generation equipment and related systems. You’ll work independently from a fully equipped Ohio CAT service truck, servicing and performing:
On‑site diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of CAT Power Generation equipment.
Servicing diesel generators ranging from 5 kW to 3 MW.
Maintaining switchgear, ATS systems, control panels, and electrical distribution systems.
Performing load‑bank testing, commissioning, and preventive maintenance.
Using diagnostic tools such as CAT ET, SIS, and other computer‑based systems to troubleshoot issues.
Providing exceptional customer service and technical support.
Ensuring compliance with safety protocols and documentation standards.
Core Competencies
Experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems.
Familiarity with switchgear brands such as Russelectric, Lakeshore, or Asco.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics and control diagrams.
Military or field‑based experience in equipment diagnostics and repair is highly valued.
Comfortable working independently in outdoor environments.
Must own and safely use personal mechanic’s tools.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED, plus completion of a technical school program (minimum 2 years) focused on diesel or power generation systems, and at least 3 years of relevant industry experience.
Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on experience repairing diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.

The position requires lifting, carrying, and pulling up to 50 pounds, standing and sitting, moving up and down stairs, and climbing into machines. Normal dexterity and repetitive, frequent hand, wrist, and finger movements are required. Noise levels vary from quiet office settings to moderate‑to‑loud environments with occasional sudden loud noises.
