This position provides support to the Restorative Justice Program of the Victim Services & Restorative Justice Unit. The Restorative Justice Program offers restorative services and opportunities to those under the jurisdiction of the MN Department of Corrections and those harmed by individuals under that jurisdiction. Practices are post‑conviction, typically in a carceral environment, and most often respond to severe harms such as homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence. The role will assist RJ Program staff with development, implementation, and evaluation of current and upcoming processes and program offerings.
Responsibilities
Assist RJ Program staff with development, implementation, and evaluation of current and upcoming process and program offerings.
Work commitments: 20 hours per week for up to one year; specific hours and days determined at appointment based on business need and applicant availability.
Applicants must include an anticipated graduation/completion date on their resume.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections will not sponsor applicants for work visas. All hired will verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications
Current enrollment in a post‑secondary or graduate study program. The application/resume must clearly indicate the college where you are currently enrolled, along with your anticipated graduation date.
Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as student workers, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year.
Enroll in at least six semester (nine quarter) credits if the institution is credit granting; if not, must take two or more classes per semester/quarter.
Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation.
Direct restorative justice experience or specific education/classes on restorative justice.
Experience and skills in using standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect information/documents.
Ability to use customer service skills on the phone, in person, and online to provide effective general and specialized office support with common courtesy, tact, empathy, and the ability to organize ideas logically.
Skills in business English sufficient to write, edit and file documents using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Additional Qualification Consideration
Experience working with diverse populations.
Knowledge of restorative justice philosophies and trauma‑informed practices.
Problem solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of and/or experience working with government‑based and community‑based victim service/advocacy organizations.
Experience with restorative justice practices or work with a restorative justice organization.
Physical Requirements
The selected finalist is required to review and sign a Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) for this position. Tuberculosis screening is also required prior to hire.
Additional Requirements
Top candidate(s) may be screened on criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Candidates must pass a criminal history check that includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections does not participate in E‑Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F‑1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
