Child Support Specialist II
Child Support Services Department is seeking qualified candidates for the Child Support Specialist II position to strengthen the workforce and continue supporting residents.

Essential Job Functions

Interview case participants in person and/or by telephone and request information through correspondence to obtain needed information.

Locate case participants by using automated systems to establish and enforce child support obligations.

Prepare necessary forms and documents for the establishment and enforcement of child support obligations using automated systems.

Respond to inquiries, provide case status information, and interpret child support policies and procedures.

Review financial information from case participants and determine ability to pay; secure payment agreements to liquidate arrearage; and prepare necessary documents for the filing of court actions.

Consult with attorneys, caseworkers, and probation or law enforcement officers on legal or procedural matters.

Develop and maintain contacts for sources of financial or other information.

Takes sworn statements from case participants as required.

Schedule paternity tests as necessary.

May provide technical assistance to Child Support Officer I incumbents.

May testify in court as to statements made by parties or witnesses during interviews.

Requirements to Qualify

One year of experience at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Child Support Specialist I.

No withhold or out-of-class experience will be allowed. Required experience/education must be fully met at the time of filing and clearly indicated on the application.

Experience at the level of Child Support Specialist I is defined as performing case management duties under close supervision, including interviewing participants, obtaining information through correspondence and taking statements; responding to inquiries and explaining case status and policies; and consulting with caseworkers, attorneys, law enforcement, or other professionals on procedural matters.

License
A valid California Class “C” Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job‑related essential functions.

Physical Class
Physical Class II – Light: Administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10‑pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
