Job Summary
St. Thomas School seeks a culturally competent, full-service
Human Resources Manager
with a strong generalist background and a positive approach to working with all levels of our community. The HR Manager will oversee the day‑to‑day execution of HR functions, manage the employee lifecycle—including onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, and employee leaves—implement and enforce employee policies and procedures, and provide training to faculty and staff. The HR Manager must handle sensitive issues with discretion, maintain confidentiality, and demonstrate a problem‑solving, service‑orientated mindset.
Responsibilities
Oversee the end‑to‑end onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring a smooth and positive experience for employees.
Ensure excellence in recruiting, managing job postings, assisting hiring managers in interview and screening processes, and onboarding.
Maintain accurate employment documentation and ensure proper record‑keeping.
Maintain and optimize HR information systems (HRIS) to accurately track employee data, generate reports, and streamline processes.
Collaborate with accounting to reconcile benefits vendor invoices and ensure accurate deductions.
Implement and administer employee benefits plans, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans; lead the annual benefits open‑enrollment process.
Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and answer employee questions regarding benefits; provide expanded onboarding support.
Review and process employee leave requests, determine eligibility per company policies and applicable laws, and communicate decisions.
Serve as first contact point for employee issues: mediation, de‑escalation, fact‑based inquiries.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including labor laws and workplace requirements.
Assist in managing internal pay transparency, including external salary benchmarking, pay scales, bands, and grades.
Generate salary and stipend agreements for employees.
Assist with payroll process, reviewing timecards and time‑off requests.
Collaborate with finance, accounting, and operations to develop and maintain the employee handbook, benefits guides, and other resources.
Ensure STS employment practices support an inclusive and diverse community.
Participate in school duties and certain events.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from a 4‑year college or university strongly preferred
3–7 years of experience in Human Resources or People Operations required
Direct experience building and running HR processes—onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, leave management
Familiarity with labor/employment law and HR regulations
SHRM‑CP or PHR certification preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong writing and communication skills across all channels—including written, phone/audio‑only, Teams, and in‑person
High emotional intelligence (EQ) and ability to navigate difficult situations with grace
Strong organizational and administrative skills with a keen eye for detail
Collaborative mindset and eagerness to grow within the role
Proficiency in Paycom or similar HRIS system strongly preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications—Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint
Ability to maintain confidential information at all times
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical capability to sit and type for up to 8 hours per day and lift up to 30 pounds
