The Role
Plans, designs and oversees the construction of new or expanded facilities. Prepares architectural, engineering, and cost estimates, functional studies, construction plans, specifications, and schedules. Obtains and supervises outside contractors. Recommends architectural and engineering design procedures and standards for the planning and design of facilities. Supervises the detailed design, budgetary costing, standardized construction, and final inspection of facility projects. Conducts construction surveillance to ensure adherence to contractual requirements. Provides engineering consulting services to local and divisional offices.

This position will support facilities in the new construction project management team. This position manages the design and construction of electrical, mechanical and structural work/systems associated with utility infrastructure, building and other industrial construction projects. Provides on-site resolution of engineering problems encountered during construction. Investigates problems incurred during testing and operations, resolves problems and directs re-test to ensure the satisfactory performance of the system. Position also requires close coordination and management of multiple construction projects with multiple stakeholders, customers, maintenance and operations personnel. Work is reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.

Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

The following relevant Bachelor degrees may be used in lieu of an ABET Engineering Degree: Construction Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management or relevant Construction degree

Nice to Have

Construction Engineering and Management Degree or Civil Engineering Degree

Internship or other work experience on construction sites is strongly preferred
Self-motivated with strong leadership, effective communication, and computer skills are essential.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on efficiency and reliability.

Strong project management, collaboration, and organizational skills are preferred
