Position Description
Ryder is hiring a Senior Level Diesel Technician in Akron, Ohio. Weekly pay, excellent benefits, and a Technician career you can feel good about.

Compensation & Incentives

Hourly Pay: $29.50 per hour

Certification Bonus: up to $700 for each new ASE certification obtained

Quarterly Bonus: up to $500 every quarter (four times per year)

Sign‑On Bonus: $2,500 at 30 days and $2,500 at 90 days

Schedule: Monday–Friday; weekends OFF

Hours: Second shift 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Vocational or technical certification or post‑secondary degree preferred

Basic mechanical tools required

Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines, including routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work) and basic diagnostics and repairs (AC and electrical systems) required

Three (3) years or more relevant work experience, preferred

All other certifications required by location required

Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A preferred

Additional requirements:

Minimum two (2) years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy‑duty and medium‑duty equipment

Computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.

Must obtain a CDL within 6 months after hire

Pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, road test, and background check (including drug and alcohol verification from previous employers for the last 3 years)

Responsibilities

Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties, including:

Standard vehicle maintenance

Preventive maintenance

Diagnostics of complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer when applicable

Complex and detailed mechanical inspections & repairs with minimal supervision

Replace defective components as instructed

Work unsupervised on most tasks

Perform facility maintenance duties

Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaint

Utilize key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation

Work in accordance with all federal/provincial/corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)

Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels

Access and use internal and external maintenance documents

Other support duties as required to support operations (e.g., Service Island support)

Complete SBTIII training within 180 days (SBT220)

Complete two of the OEM on‑line diagnostic scan tool software courses within 365 days
