5:45 PM – 6:15 AM
Job Summary
The Packaging Technician is responsible for assisting with duties related to keeping the production line running smoothly. This role leads and directs activities with a production focus on equipment and process efficiency.
Essential Job Duties
Lead team in line setup and product changeovers; identify critical controls and issues
Provide production run sheets to packaging machine operators to complete daily runs
Update production systems and/or case total boards with completed case counts to communicate goals to the next shift
Maintain raw material inventory and communicate discrepancies as needed
Set up and operate multiple machines in the packaging area
Assist in keeping the production line consistently operating and clear of jams
Perform basic troubleshooting and make minor adjustments as needed
Troubleshoot issues related to codes, dates, and pricing
Assist with and/or submit maintenance work orders
Perform or assist with Preventative Maintenance (PM) as needed
Monitor and check weights and product appearance as required
Maintain and lead compliance with GMP, PPE, safety, and quality policies by example and validation
Communicate with Quality Assurance regarding holds, changeovers, and related issues
Assist the Supervisor in completing daily line KPI paperwork
Read and understand machine data
Assist the Packaging Coordinator or Supervisor with training new employees and operators
Conduct metal detector checks, if applicable
Keep work areas, aisles, and exits clear and free of obstruction; remove trash as needed
Support Continuous Improvement initiatives, including 5S (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)
Follow safe lifting and carrying procedures; report equipment issues and all job‑related injuries
Perform sanitation tasks as directed, including equipment washdowns, tear‑down and reassembly, seasoner cleaning, and wipeouts
Mandatory overtime may be required
Perform other duties as assigned
Scope of Responsibility
May serve in a lead role to other employees
Knowledge And Skill Requirements
Strong attention to detail and mechanical aptitude
Ability to assist supervisors or packaging coordinators in leading teams
Solid computer skills
Clear verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates ownership and accountability
Leadership capability
Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division, percentages, fractions)
Ability to operate machines continuously
Mechanical aptitude: maintenance and/or production machine experience preferred
Education And Experience
High School Diploma or GED required
Minimum of 1 year production experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Professional Licenses or Certifications
Ability to obtain Lockout/Tagout certification
