
Communications/Service Officer

Job Summary
This position involves skilled emergency service work that includes receiving emergency and non‑emergency requests for police assistance, determining the nature and urgency of calls, initiating police or other personnel action, and maintaining close contact with responders to monitor and record the response and needed support requirements.
Responsibilities
Receive and respond properly to emergency and non‑emergency calls from patrol officers, other law enforcement agencies, the general public, and ASU faculty, staff, and students.
Enter, view, and retrieve vital information from the Police computer‑aided dispatch (CAD) system, NCIC/GCIC system, Banner, and other systems/programs.
Follow proper policies and procedures when handling emergency and non‑emergency calls.
Check areas for unsecured buildings and offices; if found unlocked, secure the area by a public safety officer and file a report. Verify identification before admitting personnel into secured areas. Check alarmed experiment areas and notify the personnel in charge of any unusual circumstances.
Perform all other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Promote a customer‑friendly environment and provide superior service to patients, students, faculty, and employees.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized state or federal accredited organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Federal Communications Rules and Regulations.
GA Post Certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Maintain confidentiality.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.
Working knowledge of Augusta University policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of Georgia laws, regulations, and procedures concerning law enforcement dispatching.
Shift / Salary / Benefits
Shift: Days, Monday‑Friday.
Pay Band: 4.
Salary: Minimum $17.02 per hour – $17.26 per hour, commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, life insurance, Teachers Retirement System (or Optional Retirement Plan), earned vacation time, sick leave, and 13 paid holidays. Full‑time employees employed for more than 6 months may be considered for the Tuition Assistance Program.
