Job Description

General Functions :

Responsible for planning, organizing, and facilitating recreational activities and programs for people of all ages, as well as the preparation of outdoor/indoor park facilities and spaces for public use. This position ensures that visitors have opportunities for recreation in a safe and inviting environment when utilizing Orange County Parks and Recreation facilities. Responsible for guiding and instructing part-time employees, subordinate team members, and volunteers.

Work is performed under the supervision of Site Supervisor or designated supervisor. Performance is reviewed through work-in-progress, conferences and results achieved.

Candidates selected for this position must be able to work evenings and weekends as well as perform their job duties in all weather conditions. This position is not eligible for remote-work

Representative Duties/Assignments :

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.
Supervises, trains and evaluates Park Services Specialist I, interns, casual workforce, and volunteers.
Responsible for keeping the facility clean and free of debris, including restrooms, sweeping, trash removal, and performing other custodial duties as needed.
Assists Park patrons. Works in contact with all age groups to include youth and elderly.
Open, close and secure the park sites and/or facilities.
Writes and maintain monthly reports
Utilizes specialized equipment to perform landscaping & grounds maintenance duties for multiple parks that may include athletic turf, campgrounds, diamond sport fields, trails, aquatic, etc.
May be responsible for assisting with classes or may conduct classes with program participants to include all age groups.
May be responsible for scheduling field trips to include obtaining transportation and supervising trips.
May be responsible for planning, implementing and supervising daily recreational programs.
Promotes all activities and programs through all forms of media.
Collect fees and maintains records of money received.
Maintains positive open communication between staff, parents and youth regarding their responsibilities.
Maintains documentation regarding disciplinary actions.
Plans and/or assists in special events programming.
Conducts inventory and orders supplies.
Supervises and/or conducts registration of classes.
May represent the Parks and Recreation Division at designated meetings.
Performs other related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications :

Associate's degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of experience in the Parks and Recreation field. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
Must obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification within twelve (12) months from date of hire.
May be required to possess and maintain an Aquatic License.
May be required to possess and maintain a Certified Pool and Spa Operator Certification.
Preferences :

A degree in Parks and Recreation, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Sports Management, or Early Childhood Education.

Possess Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification through National Recreation and Park Association.

Experience in recreation programming.

Experience in youth and sport program leadership.

Experience in building maintenance and/or athletic field management.

Experience with aquatic facility operations and maintenance.

Six (6) months of experience as a Lead.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 012 - From $19.94 to $25.66
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Placement based on Education and Experience

Second Shift Differential
Employees receive an additional $0.75 per hour for time worked on second shift when the following applies:

At least 4 hours of the shift are worked between 3:00 PM and 11:00 PM
The additional pay applies only to hours worked within that time range and is calculated in 1/10th-hour increments.
