Job Details
The purpose of your role as a Senior Estimator is to prepare portions of contract proposal estimates for one or more disciplines, including the determination of applicable project plans and specifications. This posting requires advanced knowledge of mechanical piping and either plumbing or sheet metal systems. The individual will independently estimate plan/spec, design assist, or design-build projects of all types and sizes.

Responsibilities

Develop proposals and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities; or determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.

Analyze plans and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.

Prepare estimates by calculating a complete takeoff of scope of work and required contents of estimate.

Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

Review design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.

Develop proposals for current or prospective customers.

Deliver accurate project cost estimates.

Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, comparing actual costs relative to bids throughout project development.

Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.

Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.

Review material and labor requirements to determine the most cost-effective outcome.

Obtain quotes from subcontractors and vendors, adhering to scope and specification.

Administer system including software upgrades, training, and pricing updates.

Documentation

Document account activities, generate reports, and keep records of business transactions with customers and suppliers.

Organize and maintain files of working documents as backup for estimate figures.

Team Collaboration and Relationship Building

Support other department personnel as required, including preparing estimates in other disciplines.

Contribute to the desired culture within the organization.

Promote a safety‑centric work culture.

Provide training and mentorship to other Harris team members.

Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to peer review.

Participate in presentations to corporate management and clients.

Provide technical assistance in negotiating contracts, change orders, etc., as required.

Assist with project turnover processes, including turnover meetings, job set‑up, and pre‑planning meetings.

May assign work direction and delegate tasks to other estimators.

Develop customer partnerships to generate long‑term relationships and ongoing opportunities.

Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation with clients.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or 5–7 years of equivalent experience.

5+ years of experience in estimating, engineering, or trade experience related to mechanical construction.

Advanced knowledge of construction project management.

Knowledge of corporate objectives impacting estimating, estimating strategies and techniques, and construction contracts.

Advanced understanding and experience with the proposal interview process.

In‑depth knowledge of plumbing, piping, or sheet metal systems.

Ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems.

Advanced knowledge of mechanical estimating software, including the ability to maintain and troubleshoot.

Solid knowledge of the cost components of an estimate.

Understanding of SMACNA and MCAA guidelines.

Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.

Pay Range: $88,849 to $133,273 (actual offer varies by skills, qualifications, experience, and location).
