Director of Supply Chain and Inventory Management
to drive the day-to-day performance across purchasing, supplier coordination, and inventory management to ensure fast, reliable, and cost-effective fulfillment of customer demand.
Position Overview
This role serves as the critical operating link between Inside Sales, Purchasing, and Suppliers—ensuring rapid quote response, strong supplier performance, and disciplined inventory management. The position is accountable for improving execution speed, increasing quote conversion, reducing supply chain friction, and directly impacting gross margin through improved sourcing discipline and buying effectiveness. This is a hands‑on leadership role focused on building operating cadence, improving throughput, and delivering measurable performance improvements.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing & Execution Management
Lead daily purchasing operations to ensure timely and accurate order placement
Improve purchasing throughput, including PO cycle time and backorder resolution
Establish clear prioritization and workflow management for buyers
Monitor and actively manage open orders, late POs, and supply disruptions
Inside Sales & Purchasing Integration
Serve as the primary coordination point between Inside Sales and Purchasing
Improve quote turnaround time and responsiveness for both stock and non-stock items
Ensure pricing accuracy and alignment between supplier quotes and customer pricing
Eliminate friction in the quote-to-order process
Supplier Performance & Sourcing Discipline
Manage supplier relationships with focus on responsiveness, reliability, and cost
Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to improve margin and service levels
Establish clear supplier performance metrics (lead time, fill rate, price stability)
Lead escalation and resolution of supplier issues
Inventory Management
Optimize inventory levels to balance availability with working capital efficiency
Define and maintain stock vs. non-stock strategy
Review and adjust safety stock, MOQs, and reorder parameters
Reduce excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory
Operating Cadence & Performance Management
Implement daily and weekly operating rhythms across purchasing and supply chain
Develop and track KPIs including quote turnaround time, fill rate, lead time, and productivity
Drive accountability through consistent performance tracking and follow-up
Process Improvement
Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in supply chain workflows
Implement process improvements to increase speed, accuracy, and consistency
Standardize workflows between inside sales, purchasing, and suppliers
Improve data quality related to pricing, lead times, and inventory
Team Leadership
Lead, develop, and manage purchasing team
Establish clear roles, expectations, and performance metrics
Drive a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement
Participate in hiring, training, and development of team members
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or 8–10 years relevant experience in supply chain, purchasing, or distribution operations
ERP (SAP preferred), Microsoft Office
Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
Manage purchasing team including hiring, training, performance management, and accountability
Industrial or construction industry experience
Experience with working with international vendors and suppliers
