Job Description
Qualifications
An advanced degree, Masters or higher, from an accredited institution with emphasis in educational leadership, school administration, curriculum or other related field.
Valid state certificate to practice as a school principal, or completion of a school administrator’s continuing education requirement.
Valid Michigan teaching certificate.
Successful teaching and administrative experience required.
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and community.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership that results in teamwork and collaborative working relationships.
Working knowledge of teacher evaluation and teacher mentoring/coaching.
The strong desire to achieve outstanding results in a short amount of time.
The ability to motivate others and influence their behaviors.
The talent to foster collective responsibility and ownership for greater student achievement.
The talent to build a professional environment that is one of mutual respect, teamwork and accountability.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Supervises:
All staff assigned to the high school and career technical center, including support personnel while functioning in the high school.
Primary function:
To provide leadership and supervisory/administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.
Performance Responsibilities
Manages all building personnel.
Assigns teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
Evaluates performance of teachers, program and staff. Provides in-service training to teachers as needed.
Administers an on‑going program of curriculum and staff development that strives to maintain an effective learning climate in the school.
Ensure compliance with all State of Michigan assessment and reporting requirements.
Provide oversight of 504 and IEP processes to ensure compliance with all applicable guidelines and regulations.
Provides leadership for designing and implementing professional staff development programs to support high school and district goals.
Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, outside agencies and the community at large.
Communicates the philosophy, goals and objectives of the high school program to the Board, stakeholders and to the community at large.
Supervises the guidance program to enhance individual student education and development.
Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline according to due process standards.
Administers the full range of extra‑curricular activities at the high school, including attendance at events.
Plans and executes commencement ceremony.
Coordinates and administers the preparation and implementation of the high school budget, submitting appropriate recommendations to the Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer.
Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings and conferences, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns and issues of mutual interest with others in the field.
Interprets, implements and assures compliance with the policies and procedures set forth by Federal regulations, Michigan Revised School Code and the Petoskey Board of Education, including administrative rules and regulations.
Provides leadership for continued development of an effective high school curriculum, innovative instruction and assessment based on best practices.
Demonstrates leadership capacity to meet and exceed the standards in the state accreditation program, school improvement framework and federal adequate yearly progress.
Monitors adherence to the approved curriculum and appropriate instructional practices.
Works collaboratively with the high school leadership teams to meet and exceed high school and district goals.
Coordinates with Human Resources regarding recruiting, interviewing, screening and recommending the best-qualified candidates for high school staff positions.
Provides guidance in resolving conflict with staff, administrators, students and parents.
Creates and maintains a safe environment for all students and staff.
Works cooperatively with other administrators in the areas of pupil accounting, facility use, staff assignments, financial resource development and coordination of schedules.
Attends and participates in regularly scheduled Board of Education meetings, as well as in appropriate committee meetings to support the work of the high school, district and community. Prepares such reports as the Superintendent of Schools may direct.
Performs other related duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Terms of Employment
205 Work Days, personal business days and personal illness days as indicated in the employment contract. Salary to be set by the Board of Education.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools in accordance with the policy of the Board of Education regarding evaluation of professional staff.
