Position: Education Foundation/Director of Development
This role is responsible for the development and execution of results-driven fundraising strategy and donor engagement in support of the Plano ISD Education Foundation’s mission and long-term financial sustainability. In collaboration with the Sr. Executive Director, the Director of Development will oversee a comprehensive development program encompassing annual giving, major and planned gifts, corporate and foundation relations, event sponsorships, donor stewardship, and gifts-in-kind.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in nonprofit management, public administration, communications, public relations or similar areas, or equivalent professional-level work experience.

Valid Texas Driver’s license.

Special Knowledge/Skills

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking and written communications.

Experience with donor
onprofit‑related database platforms (CRM systems) or other applicable systems.

Professional skills including organizing, strategic planning, problem solving, decision making, and working efficiently both independently and in teams.

Ability to coordinate with team members, internal resources and third parties/vendors for successful execution of marketing (digital and print) for campaigns and other fundraising efforts.

Experience with managing online giving platforms.

Strong understanding of grant writing and ability to utilize district resources to research district programming and funding needs as well as source data needed for effective grant writing.

Experience

A minimum of three years’ experience in nonprofit fundraising.

Proven record of fundraising success.

Knowledge or experience in planned giving activities and grant writing.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Develop comprehensive plan to increase the Education Foundation’s long-range and short-range fundraising activities.

Grow overall revenue for the organization; performance goals and fundraising benchmarks will be established by the Education Foundation Senior Executive Director and approved by the Board of Directors.

Oversee grant process, including research, writing, submission and reporting.

Expand base of individual donors through cultivation and personal solicitation activities.

Grow the Legacy of Learning Society planned giving program.

Develop and manage donor recognition and stewardship program in collaboration with the Board of Directors.

Work closely with the Sr. Executive Director to ensure the Board of Directors and Superintendent are informed and engaged in fundraising plans.

Support fundraising activities related to all special events in collaboration with any event committees and the Programs and Events Coordinator.

Plan and manage digital and print appeals to donors and prospects.

Oversee, update and maintain donor database in collaboration with the Partners in Education Coordinator.

Assist in development of the Education Foundation strategic plan and budget.

Serve on the Partners in Education Committee to support the development of new, creative strategies for recognizing donors, community partners and volunteers.

Work closely and effectively with the Sr. Executive Director to keep him/her well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities and following up appropriately.

Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from supervisor.

Follow attendance policy as assigned by supervisor.

Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.

Equipment Used

Job‑specific software (Salesforce and GoFundMePro; formerly Classy), computer, printer, copier, and scanner.

Working Conditions

Term and performance review: The Director of Development position is a two-year appointment. Continuation of employment beyond the initial two-year term is contingent upon successful achievement of performance goals and fundraising benchmarks established by the Education Foundation Senior Executive Director and approved by the Board of Directors. Performance will be evaluated annually, with a comprehensive review conducted at the conclusion of the two-year term.

Mental demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to multi‑task and set personal work priorities; ability to maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions.

Physical demands/Environmental factors: Occasional prolonged and irregular hours; frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; dependable transportation for transporting work materials from multiple locations.
