
Cast Technician - Part Time - APG Ortho Trauma - Atlantic City

Responsibilities
The Part Time Cast Technician supports the ambulatory orthopedic practice with a focus on trauma care, hand surgery, and pediatric orthopedics. This role is responsible for the application and removal of casts and braces, assisting with minor clinical procedures, and providing high-quality patient care under the direction of licensed providers. The Cast Technician plays a key role in patient education, clinical efficiency, and ensuring a safe, compassionate experience for patients of all ages.
Casting and Brace Care: Apply, remove, and modify orthopedic casts (plaster and fiberglass) according to provider orders and established protocols. Apply and remove orthopedic braces, splints, and immobilization devices. Assess cast and brace fit, comfort, and integrity; report concerns to the provider promptly. Provide patient and caregiver education on cast and brace care, activity restrictions, and warning signs requiring medical attention.
Equipment/DME: Maintain equipment and supply inventory at the ambulatory practice and notify the supervisor when supplies are needed. Work with the Orthotic team to complete DME paperwork in their absence.
Wound care/Suture removal: Perform staple and suture removal per provider order and assist with dressing changes and wound care.
Qualifications
Education: High School degree or equivalent required; ability to read, speak, and write English fluently.
License/Certification: Certified Orthopedic Technologist (OTC), Certified Cast Technician (CCT), or equivalent preferred.
American Heart Association BLS certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
Experience: Prior experience in orthopedic casting and bracing preferred. Experience in ambulatory orthopedic, trauma, hand, or pediatric settings strongly preferred.
Performance Expectations
Demonstrates the ability to perform the department specific competencies as listed on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool. This position is Part time 24 hours per week.
Work Environment
Potential exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and infectious diseases.
Reporting Relationship
The position reports to ambulatory leadership.
