Staff Accounting Assistant
Job Summary
SCS Accounts Payable supports the accounts payable function for Southern Company and affiliates (APC, GPC, MPC, SCS, SNC, Southern Company Parent, Southern Company Gas and Southern Power Company). This position is responsible for providing support to meet corporate and business unit goals and objectives and performing Southern Accounts Payable activities in support of financial reporting and ensuring compliance with financial controls, policies, procedures and applicable laws that govern our business. The AP functions include but are not limited to invoice and payment processing, PCard and business expense statement audits, 1099/1042 reporting, and completion of AP internal controls.
Job Responsibilities
Processing of supplier and internal invoices
Resolving possible invoice issues to ensure timely supplier payment
Respond promptly to customer inquiries and resolve identified issues
Research and resolve returned checks
Provide data and perform research as needed for audit requests
Meet all SOX and production control requirements
Audit of employee expense reports to ensure compliance with Business Policy
Educational Requirements
High School diploma or equivalent degree required
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Minimum 3 months of professional experience required
Related work experience is a plus
General knowledge of basic accounting principles preferred
Exposure to Oracle Cloud, Maximo, and related applications preferred
Microsoft Office experience preferred
Possess good oral and written communication skills
Discreet with confidential and sensitive information
