Complex Coordinator for Graduate & Upper Division Residence Halls - University Housing
University Housing’s Family & Graduate Housing team manages the housing units, leasing process, and residential community for students and their families living in graduate‑upper division residence halls and apartment complexes. The Complex Coordinator will lead, manage, and coordinate a residential community, working collaboratively across campus to support the University Housing mission through leadership, crisis management, and implementation of a residential curriculum.

Job Summary
Responsible for leading, promoting, and evaluating residential life functions in two graduate upper division residence hall areas. Facilitates and evaluates the development of a positive community environment and provides learning opportunities that encourage students to reach their potential. Supervisors engage in and implement University Housing’s inclusion, culture, and climate initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

Recruit, select, train, supervise, and evaluate a Residence Hall Director, a Housing Representative, and residential student staff.

Oversee the development and implementation of annual training for staff in the area.

Plan and facilitate regular staff meetings and staff development.

Provide leadership for area staff on all hall operations and administrative duties.

Coordinate with staff from other Housing units for day‑to‑day operations.

Provide guidance and support to staff, students, and student groups in developing and maintaining residence hall communities that complement the academic programs of the University.

Plan and develop programs to meet the varied needs of the graduate and upper‑class residents, with particular attention to international residents.

Enhance student development opportunities through advising student groups such as Hall Councils / Resident Leadership Boards.

Educate residents, faculty, and staff regarding University and Housing policies and procedures.

Identify and address behaviors that violate community standards and University and Housing policies.

Supervise, lead, and manage hall operational processes (e.g., opening, closing, damage billing, key inventories).

Facilitate the summer housing assignments process including room assignments and turnover.

Oversee the housing representative in operation of two customer service desks, including procedures, scheduling, and responding to resident needs.

Develop and administer hall and area budgets.

Work cooperatively with Housing Conference Services regarding conferences scheduled in the halls.

Serve as a committee member on unit and department committees.

Serve as a crisis response backup for residence hall directors in the professional staff on‑call rotation for all of University Housing.

Assume on‑call responsibilities within a multi‑residence hall and multi‑apartment area on a regularly scheduled year‑round rotation, including holidays.

Effectively address all on‑call responsibilities and follow‑up with incidents.

Coordinate staff intervention regarding resident concerns, conflicts, and crisis, assist staff in resolving interpersonal and inter‑group conflicts, and mediate as needed.

Remain at or report to facilities, as soon as conditions reasonably permit, in the event of severe weather or emergency situations when the university may suspend classes or close the university.

Maintain an effective working relationship with supervisor, co‑workers, and University Housing staff.

Be open and receptive to constructive criticism and feedback.

Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Demonstrate a positive attitude toward the position, area community, Family & Graduate Housing, and University Housing.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree.

Two (2) years of professional experience in student affairs, customer service, hospitality, housing, or a related field.

Experience in crisis management and conflict intervention.

Direct staff supervision experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, or a related field.

Experience implementing a residential curriculum or outcomes‑based programming model.

Experience working with varied populations, including international students and graduate students.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to work with and appreciate people from all backgrounds.

Ability to communicate effectively and respond in a professional manner.

Proficient technology skills using various types of software.

Ability to work independently and pursue innovative ideas and solutions.

Working Conditions

This position requires the staff member to live within the same residence hall in which they work.

Position involves standard business hours with some nights and weekends required for duty and other programmatic or operational responsibilities.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full‑time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12‑month basis, with an expected start date as soon as possible after the close of the search.

Salary and Benefits
The budgeted salary range for the position is $49,000 to $52,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity. The position is eligible for benefits, including Health, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, a Retirement Plan, Paid Time Off, and Tuition waivers for employees and dependents.
