Elementary Classroom Teacher
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district‑approved curriculum; document teaching and student progress/outcomes; address specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and provide feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

Essential Functions

Develop and administer elementary curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.

Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small‑group instruction.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into effective learning experiences to best utilize instructional time.

Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including those with special needs; provide individual and small‑group instruction as needed.

Instruct students in responsible citizenship principles and other subject matters specified by applicable laws, administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.

Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay current with educational developments by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings or conducting research.

Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting of all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.

Ensure student conduct conforms with school standards and district policies; establish and maintain behavioral standards necessary for a functional learning atmosphere.

Coordinate with other elementary staff, especially within the grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum and participate in faculty meetings and committees.

Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies, maintaining inventory records.

Supervise students during activities outside the classroom, including transportation‑related activities.

Administer standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities and is not meant to be all inclusive.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements
Travels to district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, distinguishing instruction based on student learning styles.

Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts.

Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and action‑plan formulation.

Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws concerning students.

Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.

Ability to organize and coordinate work.

Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

Ability to engage in self‑evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others encountered in the course of work.

Qualifications Profile

Certification/License:

State of Indiana Certification as an Elementary Teacher (required).

State of Indiana Certification in the appropriate grade level (preferred).

Education

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or a related discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.

Experience
Prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels is desirable.
