Completion of Safe Schools web‑based training is required as a condition of employment.
Qualifications
Required
Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate appropriate for elementary education.
Satisfactory evaluations.
Preferred
Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with emphasis on providing for their individual learning styles, documented by evaluations and/or references.
Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom, with parents and colleagues, documented by evaluations and/or references.
Evidence of recent successful primary teaching experience with culturally diverse children, documented by evaluations and/or references.
Training and/or experience in the use of the Origo Stepping Stones Series.
Training and/or experience in the use of the CKLA.
Training and experience in the use of Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading and other Direct Instruction supplemental programs.
Experience working effectively with a broad range of ability levels using the RTI model and expectations.
The ability to work as a team member in planning, curriculum development, grade level responsibilities, RTI implementation and building responsibilities.
Training and/or experience in utilizing technology as an instructional tool.
Training and/or experience in administering various types of assessment tools – MAP & DIBELS performance assessments using a rubric etc.
Experience and/or training with Step Up to Writing.
Experience and/or training in the Make Your Day discipline program and willingness to implement it with fidelity.
Evidence of successful communication with school staff, parents and students.
Willingness to actively participate in PLC meetings.
Punctual and consistent attendance.
Responsibilities
Prepare students for Building, District, and State assessments.
Prepare for assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
Provide an effective program of instruction in accordance with the school’s adopted curriculum materials, teaching each program with fidelity.
Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
Attend and participate in faculty in‑service training and meetings.
Be flexible in schedule changes to accommodate other staff and community faculty usage.
Take responsibility for maintaining good classroom management.
Work collaboratively with paraeducators and other teachers to devise appropriate instruction for all students.
Other duties as required.
Physical Demands
Mobility:
Requires standing and walking for prolonged periods, pushing or pulling 18-26 lbs., sitting, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, typing, and reaching with hands and arm.
Sense:
Requires talking/hearing, communicating effectively in person and over the telephone, and adequate vision and other sensory abilities as described.
Lifting:
Ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; must also be able to lift overhead.
Work Environment:
Includes outdoor work in a wide variety of temperatures (-10°F to 100°F+), exposure to wet or humid conditions, and moderate noise levels.
