POSITION:
Substitute Bus/Van Driver
REPORTS TO:
Transportation Supervisor or Designee
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:
Part Time, FLSA Non-Exempt
HOURS:
6 HOURS DAILY
QUALIFICATIONS:
Highschool Diploma or Equivalent
Flexible Hours
Desire to work with students on a daily basis
Self-directed and ability to follow directions
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Physical stamina and good attendance record
Ability to work as a member of a team
Must pass a criminal background check
Hold a valid CDL with School Bus Endorsement
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of school pupils within the guidelines of the State of Ohio and the policies of the Preble Shawnee Board of Education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provide for the safe and efficient transportation of students in accordance with District policies and administrative guidelines, Ohio Pupil Transportation Operation and Safety Rules, and the provisions of State and Federal law.
Operate a school bus or van transporting regular and/or special education students over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips, etc. in a safe and timely manner.
Complete established pre-trip and post-trip inspections of an assigned vehicle.
Check all safety devices including fire, emergency, and first-aid equipment and maintain cleanliness, appearance, and sanitation of assigned vehicle.
Properly operate all safety and assistive technology/equipment, including two-way radios, ramps, lifts, wheel chairs, harnesses, seat belts, etc.; conduct safety drills and evacuation drills as required.
Prepare and maintain reports, route maps, schedules, student lists, and accident reports as required by the State of Ohio, Ohio Department of Education, and by the District.
Provide transportation services and support for special needs students in accordance with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and/or other District-authorized accommodation plan as assigned by Special Education staff.
Maintain passenger behavior and control; report disciplinary violations to the appropriate authority as prescribed.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Successfully complete and maintain annual physical examination record and up-to-date driver training and licensing as required by the Ohio Department of Motor Vehicles and Ohio Department of Education.
Notify Supervisor/Assistant of road hazards, layover time, and delays in scheduled route.
Assist with other routes, as requested, when breakdowns or other unusual circumstances occur.
Meet the professional expectations of attendance, suitable attire and decorum, participation in Transportation/District meetings/functions, and support of District initiatives.
Respond to specific requests from the Transportation Supervisor on matters affecting the Transportation program and District operation.
OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor, or Designee
Additional Working Conditions and Environment
OCCASIONAL: Exposure to inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather, traffic, loud noise, unruly children/adults; attends functions or performs duties outside normal working hours; exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Light lifting, up to 50 pounds.
PERIODIC: Exposure to inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather, heavy equipment, unruly children/adults; exposure to common childhood illnesses.
FREQUENT: Exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue. Prolonged periods of standing and lifting (10-20 pounds). Bending, stooping and reaching.
