Responsibilities
Management of Instructional Time
The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment before each lesson, starts promptly, engages students on task quickly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
Management of Student Behavior
The teacher establishes and enforces classroom rules for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, movement, and transitions. The teacher monitors behavior, stops inappropriate actions promptly, and maintains student dignity.
Instructional Presentation
The teacher reviews prior material, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, uses clear language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks, asks appropriate questions, maintains a brisk pace, and summarizes main points at the end.
Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance
The teacher sets firm work standards and due dates, circulates, checks student work, uses oral and written assessments, and asks questions clearly and one at a time.
Instructional Feedback
The teacher offers corrective feedback for in‑class work, prompt feedback on outside assignments, affirms correct responses, and probes or provides clues after incorrect or no responses.
Facilitating Instruction
The teacher aligns instructional plans with curricular goals, uses diagnostic information, documents student performance, and utilizes resources to support the program.
Interacting Within the Educational Environment
The teacher treats all students fairly, and interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and the community.
Performing Non‑Instructional Duties
The teacher completes non‑instructional assignments as needed, follows laws, policies, and professional development plans, and demonstrates growth.
Additional Job Functions
Perform other related work as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
Physical Requirements
Use of classroom tools, computers, and equipment for students with special needs.
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects with negligible force frequently.
Stand and walk for extended periods consistent with light work.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Monitor student safety and well‑being, especially in inclusive activities.
Motivate students, maintain a clean environment, and perform clerical duties.
Maintain order and discipline, operate office equipment, and keep basic records.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Additional Competencies
Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, and intelligence to apply logical thinking.
Verbal and numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, and interpersonal temperament.
Physical communication via telephone.
