Center Line Superintendent (Gas & Steam Turbines)
Position Summary: The Center Line Superintendent (Gas & Steam) is responsible for supervising the installation, alignment, and assembly of gas and steam turbine centerline components on industrial construction sites. This role oversees craft labor and ensures all work is executed in accordance with project specifications, OEM requirements, safety protocols, and applicable labor agreements. The Center Line Superintendent coordinates closely with project management, field engineering, and quality control personnel to ensure alignment with construction schedules, maintain workmanship standards, and support mechanical completion and turnover. This position requires travel to various project sites and active field leadership in dynamic and schedule-driven environments.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Direct all aspects of gas and steam turbine centerline installation, including generator alignment, load coupling, bearings, torque tubes, diaphragms, and casing assembly.

Ensure precision alignment, torque, clearances, and installation tolerances per OEM specifications.

Coordinate auxiliary systems integration such as lube oil, hydraulic, turning gear, and steam seal systems.

Supervise and coordinate union craft labor in accordance with jurisdictional rules and collective bargaining agreements.

Work closely with general foremen, field engineers, and project controls to develop daily plans, manpower forecasts, and resource schedules.

Foster a respectful, safe, and productive environment in line with union protocols and contractor policies.

Interface with OEM technical advisors, project management, QA/QC, and client representatives to ensure technical accuracy and schedule compliance.

Lead daily coordination meetings, monitor critical path progress, and proactively mitigate delays or rework.

Oversee rigging, staging, and movement of major turbine components, working in collaboration with lift directors and rigging crews.

Enforce safety policies in compliance with OSHA, client, and company requirements; conduct JHAs, safety meetings, and incident reporting.

Ensure installation activities meet quality standards through torque/tension documentation, alignment readings, flange inspections, and NDE coordination.

Support mechanical completion, punch list closure, and turnover documentation as part of system handover.

Skills and Abilities

Expert-level understanding of gas and steam turbine installation, alignment, and centerline component assembly.

Proficient in interpreting technical drawings, P&IDs, OEM manuals, and alignment specifications.

Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and coordinate union craft labor across multiple trades.

Familiarity with jurisdictional rules and collective bargaining agreements in union construction environments.

Skilled in use of alignment and measurement tools such as laser alignment systems, dial indicators, micrometers, and torque wrenches.

Ability to plan and execute turbine erection activities in coordination with rigging, welding, piping, and auxiliary systems work.

Effective communicator with the ability to interface with OEM representatives, field engineers, client stakeholders, and construction management.

Strong working knowledge of safety procedures, JHAs, LOTO, and OSHA standards.

Demonstrated ability to maintain daily reports, installation records, and quality documentation for mechanical completion.

Capable of identifying and resolving field issues related to schedule, quality, or installation sequencing.

Competent in using standard project management tools and software for schedule tracking, documentation, and coordination.

Ability to travel to project sites and adapt to rotating or extended field schedules in active industrial environments.

Education/Experience

8+ years of experience in steam and gas turbine installation and centerline equipment supervision.

Proven leadership experience on union jobsites with large craft crews and complex turbine scopes.

Deep understanding of alignment tools (laser, optical), mechanical fit-up, and OEM startup readiness procedures.

Familiarity with construction drawings, turbine manuals, field sketches, and weld/bolt-up procedures.

Current OSHA 30 and First Aid/CPR certifications (or ability to obtain).

Valid driver's license and ability to travel for extended field assignments.

Physical Demands

Travel will be required to attend trainings and meetings.

Ability to sit or stand for entire shift.

Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federals, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.

Must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly.

Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing, and keyboard operations.
