Job Description
Job Summary:

The School Resource Officer is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to ensure all students receive the education they need to succeed. This role is performed within a school environment overseen by the Chief of Police, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their role requires. They must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Qualifications

Minimum of high school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.

Active Georgia POST Peace Officer Certification or eligibility for transfer/reciprocity in Good Standing.

Proven experience in Law Enforcement or related field, preferably in an educational or similar setting.

Strong organizational and communication skills to develop and implement risk management programs effectively.

Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, guidelines, regulations, etc. relating to law enforcement and the K12 landscape.

Successful completion of background check, physical agility assessment, psychological, drug screening, medical, firearms, and other essential pre-employment qualifications.

Valid Georgia Driver’s License and ability to operate government vehicles.

Ability to meet physical demands of patrol and emergency response.

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions

Provide safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and district property in accordance with Board policy and SOP.

Serve as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer for the Paulding County School District.

Enforce state, local and federal laws in accordance with Georgia law and department SOP, with consideration for laws and procedures specific to minors.

Conduct regular patrols of assigned buildings, grounds, and parking areas.

Report all criminal and suspected criminal activity to the PCSD Police Department through report forms and procedures.

Submit written departmental documents, including incident reports, accident reports, investigative reports, and administrative forms as directed.

Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency responders.

Collect, preserve and document evidence in accordance with department policy and legal standards, maintaining proper chain of custody.

Control campus access points and enforce visitor management procedures.

Collaborate with the Paulding County Court system.

Serve as site Safety Coordinator responsible for Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) development and execution.

Coordinate and document drills, exercises, and emergency preparedness activities.

Coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement and emergency response agencies during incidents.

Coordinate and document safety-related systems such as Crisis Alert Systems, Visitor Management Systems, etc.

Respond to all active emergencies, including safety incidents, medical emergencies, security threats, and school-related threat investigations.

Assist administrators and PCSD School Police leadership with investigations.

Coordinate and/or conduct safety-related training for staff, students, and other requested or required circumstances.

Monitor and report hazards, breaches, and suspicious activity.

Provide visible security presence during arrival, dismissal, and school events.

Assist with extracurricular activities as assigned by the principal and/or chief of police or supervisor.

Enforce Board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.

Attend in-service training as mandated by the Chief of Police, maintain compliance with Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council minimum standards.

Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to safety/security in K12 settings.

Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
