About the Role:

This position is responsible for designing, deploying, and managing cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure platforms. The Cloud Engineer ensures the reliability, scalability, and security of Subway’s cloud environments. They will implement infrastructure‑as‑code practices, drive automation of cloud operations, support cost optimization efforts, and work cross‑functionally with application and security teams to deliver robust cloud solutions. This role also provides mentoring and technical guidance to operations engineers.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:

Design and deploy cloud infrastructure solutions across AWS and Azure platforms.
Develop and maintain infrastructure‑as‑code (IaC) using Terraform and similar tools.
Monitor cloud environments for performance, availability, and cost efficiency; implement optimizations.
Collaborate with Security and Architecture teams to implement cloud security standards and controls.
Support CI/CD pipeline development and automation of deployment workflows.
Respond to and resolve cloud infrastructure incidents and escalations.
Manage cloud cost governance, tagging standards, and rightsizing recommendations.
Provide technical mentoring to operations engineers on cloud platforms and best practices.
Coach Infrastructure colleagues on Active Directory and vulnerability remediation best practices.
Strong hands‑on experience with AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms.
Proficiency with infrastructure‑as‑code tools, particularly Terraform (required).
Experience with containerization technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Working knowledge of cloud security frameworks and IAM best practices.
Experience applying AI/ML tools to cloud operations, automation, and optimization (required).
Bachelor’s degree in Technology, Cloud Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
5+ years of hands‑on cloud engineering experience on AWS and/or Azure.
8+ years of experience with Windows system administration.
3+ years working with containerization platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).
3+ years of experience supporting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
3+ years writing and maintaining Terraform modules for cloud infrastructure.
Experience leveraging AI tools for cloud automation, anomaly detection, or operational efficiency.
Travel Requirements: Less than 10%.

Compensation:

The base pay range for this role is $138,300 – 172,900 USD annually.
Pay within this range will be determined in good faith based on job‑related factors, which may include skills, experience, education/training, location, and internal equity.
