Job Responsibilities:

The Engineering and Robotics Teacher leads a two-year, hands‑on STEM program where students design, build, and program real‑world engineering and robotics projects.

Provide instruction in engineering essentials, design principles, robotics, computer‑integrated manufacturing, and advanced engineering development while guiding students through the full process of taking ideas from concept to creation.

Support students as they complete major projects such as designing and building a working trebuchet, creating technical documentation, and producing 3D‑printed components.

Incorporate programming and automation into robotics activities and help students participate in skill‑based competitions and real‑world problem‑solving challenges.

Manage a dynamic learning environment where students work both independently and collaboratively in classes that may include 24 or more students.

Teach career and technical skills and knowledge and employability skills to prepare students for the world of work or post‑secondary education.

Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, in accordance with New York State Learning Standards, general elements of the course of study, as specified in state law, administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.

Participate in planning and developing goals, objectives, curricula, and reports.

Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that preparation, instruction, shop work, and cleanup activities can be accomplished with the allotted time.

Demonstrate career and technical materials, equipment, tools, and processes using standard or teacher‑prepared models, mock‑ups, sketches, and other instructional aids.

Guide pupils in selection and performance of appropriate activities.

Provide individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the pupil(s) and the requirements of the activities being performed.

Instruct pupils in the appropriate safety precautions and the safe operation and use of tools, machinery, and equipment.

Assist in the control, storage, maintenance, and use of materials and property to prevent loss or abuse.

Establish and maintain standards of classroom pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive environment.

Collaborate with academic teachers to integrate academic coursework into career and technical curriculum.

Establish contacts with the business community to maintain industry standards and provide students with internship opportunities.

Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors on individual pupil progress as needed.

Identify pupil needs, and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve attitude, and learning problems.

Provide encouragement for continuation of formal education and assistance to pupils in employment awareness skills through development and maintenance of student portfolios.

Supervise pupils in out‑of‑classroom program related activities during the assigned working day.

Attend faculty meetings and work with Career and Technical Education Program Advisory Committee in the development and implementation of specific career and technical education programs.

May share in the sponsorship of student activities and club activities.

Coordinate work schedules and clinical sites with participating facilities where training is done, for example, hospitals.

Assess each pupil’s performance, knowledge, and skills and prepare progress reports and grades.

Maintain accurate and complete student records.

Research and maintain bid specifications. Select and requisition books, instructional aids, equipment, tools, materials, supplies, and parts as required, working under established budget and procedures.

Qualifications:

Must hold a valid NYS Teaching Certification in Technology Education or similar or be willing to obtain.

Strong background in engineering, robotics, or a related STEM field.

Comfortable teaching design, fabrication, programming, and technical problem‑solving while maintaining a safe and organized lab environment.

Strong communication and classroom‑management skills, in addition to helping students build strong technical, teamwork, and time‑management skills.

Demonstrate professionalism, ethical technology practices, and a commitment to staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends.

Experience working with/teaching secondary students in hands‑on, project‑based learning preferred.
