Shift
Must work three 12‑hour shifts: 7P 730AM NIGHT SHIFT / 36 HRS PER WEEK, plus some weekend and holidays. Shift determined upon interview.
Job Summary
Registered Nurses in Tower 100 ICU of the Trauma Acute Care Surgical Services Center at UK Chandler Hospital provide care primarily for adult patients with trauma or acute care surgical conditions. Patient conditions include injuries from blunt and penetrating trauma and vascular surgeries. Primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care—assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians; and adhering to university policies, procedures, and federal, state and local regulations. The environment supports collaborative efforts among nursing staff and the team of physicians to increase communication and enhance patient outcomes.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Knowledge of Maslow’s eight Basic Human Needs and priority within Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns Framework and Swanson’s Caring model
Superb direct patient care and critical thinking skills
Basic computer navigation skills and working knowledge of the internet
Professional and respectful communication with patients, families, co‑workers and physicians
Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills
Motivated, pro‑active, and confident in advocating for patients and their families
Enjoys a strong team environment and provides open, honest communication with fellow staff and physicians
Exceptional technical skills and proven ability to work both independently and in a team
Qualifications
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license in good standing
AHA Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least 6 months after employment date
Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50‑100 pounds daily and 25‑50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods; possible exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, or sharp instruments
Required education: ADN; Preferred education: BSN + at least 1 year RN experience
No supervisory responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
BSN + at least 1 year RN experience preferred.
