Position Summary
The Per Diem Ambulatory Care Nurse – North Babylon will support the coordination, integration, communication, implementation and evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures. The role involves participating in site and organizational quality and performance improvement activities, collecting patient healthcare data, and collaborating with licensed providers to develop patient‑centered plans of care.
Job Responsibilities
Perform physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
Collect patient health history.
Record information in the electronic health record.
Provide information, counsel, and education to patients and families regarding test results and treatment plans.
Administer medications, provide wound care, and perform phone and in‑person triage for clinical concerns.
Assess and monitor patient responses to treatments, procedures, and anesthesia.
Interpret patient information to make appropriate treatment decisions.
Consult with clinical supervisors and licensed providers to determine best treatment plans.
Direct, supervise, and delegate to licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and technicians as needed.
Perform other duties as needed.
Support the coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.
Ensure clinical compliance with Patient Safety initiatives and reporting.
Support key quality initiatives (e.g., MIPS, Care gap management) to impact clinical outcome measures.
Demonstrate knowledge of NYULH Service Standards and incorporate them into performance.
Participate in activities related to NYULH clinical standards and relevant external agencies’ regulations.
Support the mission, philosophy, and goals of NYULH, Nursing, and FGP.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and foster collegial relationships.
Serve as a support and resource for nursing and other clinical staff.
Participate in clinical inquiry and activities to advance evidence‑based practice.

Provide direct care services, including medication administration and disease prevention guidance.
Task/Procedure
Collect and document patient clinical history and assessment data.
Perform onsite testing (POC lab, EKG, specimen collection, auditory & visual tests, psychiatric & physical risk screening, fetal monitoring, spirometry, allergy testing, etc.).
Administer medical and nursing treatments per plan of care and provider orders.
Perform procedures such as hot & cold applications, orthopedic appliance management, suture removal, urinary catheter care, ear irrigation, and wound care.
Apply and remove dressings.
Monitor patients pre‑, intra‑, and post‑procedure.
Administer medications via various routes and provide medication refills as needed.
Administer IV therapy (including blood products, IV fluids, chemotherapy, peripheral or central lines).
Start and discontinue peripheral IV lines.
Maintain and manage complications of central and peripheral IV lines with appropriate certification.
Communication and Message Management
Manage clinical in‑baskets and close encounters in a timely manner.
Document and report critical lab values.
Relate normal and abnormal results, follow‑up, and explanations to patients.
Prioritize urgent findings and notify provider for final verification.
Perform person‑to‑person and phone triage, providing advice within RN scope.
Manage care/case for defined populations via multidisciplinary plans.
Health Promotion & Education
Identify deviations from health and wellness through analysis and recommend actions.
Collect and analyze patient data systematically.
Develop patient‑centered plans of care prescribing interventions to achieve expected outcomes.
Educate patients and families to promote healthy adjustment to new or changed health patterns.
Implement interventions, evaluate progress, and anticipate outcomes.
Patient Experience
Serve as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador, upholding mission, vision, and values.
Drive consistency in patient and colleague encounters by embodying core principles of the FGP Service Strategy.
Greet patients warmly, state name and role, and communicate each step of care.

Minimum Qualifications
Current Registered Professional Nurse in New York. If hired after 9/1/25: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited institution required; Associate degree may be accepted contingent upon Nursing Leadership approval, with a minimum of two years of experience and enrollment in a baccalaureate program to be completed within two years of hire. Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association required.
Required Licenses
Registered Nurse License (NYS), Basic Life Support Certification.
Preferred Qualifications
ACLS certification. Membership in pertinent professional organizations.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
