Supervisor Operations directs the daily operations of an assigned area and leads the shift team of unit operators and assistants to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operations in order to meet refinery targets, production goals, and HS&E objectives.
Responsibilities
Supervises and directs the daily operations of an assigned area and leads the shift team of unit operators and assistants to ensure safe, efficient and reliable operations in order to meet refinery targets, production goals, and HS&E objectives.
Ensures the safety of all personnel by enforcing safety expectations, performing routine safety observations, and assessments of the shift team and maintenance activities.
Reviews and enforces refinery safety and environmental practices and procedures in assigned area with operating crews on specific jobs, shutdown and start-up procedures, routine and abnormal operation.
Supports incident response in the refinery.
Ensures proper relief and management of the shift utilizing policies, procedures, and processes developed for proper shift management.
Ensures the effectiveness of operator rounds and updates the Shift Superintendent on any performance issues.
Drives on-shift safety, housekeeping, and VPP efforts; ensures safety compliance by conducting daily permit audits and providing corrective feedback to operators.
Conducts weekly tabletop drills, safety meetings when appropriate, and regular safe work audits.
Ensures that all EHSM notices are entered for their respective shift.
Ensures environmental compliance and reporting in assigned area.
Ensures PSM compliance by supporting Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs), Pre-startup Safety Review (PSSRs), and Management of Change (MOCs) for all changes.
Verifies and establishes accountability with operators, using procedures when preparing equipment or executing changes to the process when required (startup, shutdown, emergency, etc.).
Reviews and approves all applicable permits and energy isolation packages.
Reviews Intelatrac exception reports from operator rounds and ensures that any discrepancies are appropriately addressed (i.e. notifications written, engineering notified, etc.).
Reviews permit audit results and provides corrective feedback to operators.
Verifies that equipment is prepped and ready for maintenance per the area night orders and the Maintenance Schedule, communicating status to Operations Maintenance Gatekeepers (OMGs) and Maintenance Superintendents through the shift log.
Identifies and troubleshoots unit limitations, communicating issues to the Operations Superintendent, Shift Superintendent, and Complex Managers.
Acquires and maintains qualification for specified posts within the Complex.
Provides field presence and leadership during troubleshooting or abnormal activities.
Supports company/management positions or directives.
Approves all operator time and ensures it is accounted for correctly and submitted on time in Kronos.
Ensures training, qualification and knowledge retention of direct reports by coaching, mentoring and providing assistance to trainees and Operators.
Ensures all operator staff is being properly trained (includes CBTs) and that all post training is being completed and documented.
Provides and documents positive and negative coaching as required, and administers discipline as/when needed.
This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED, required.
5 years of refinery operations experience, required.
Bachelor’s or higher-level degree, preferred.
8 years of overall experience in a refinery, preferred.
Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
All successful candidates must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential); employees must wear this card at all times while working at the refinery.
