Assistant Director for Employer Relations
The Assistant Director of Career Development for Employer Relations reports to the Associate Director for Employer Relations and Marketing and is responsible for developing and supporting employer relationships and engagements on campus, securing practicum, internship, and employment opportunities for students, and supporting the planning and execution of all Career Development Center anchor events.
Responsibilities
Plans and executes all CDC anchor events under the supervision of the Associate Director, including career fairs, conferences, and other engagements focused on high-quality networking between employers and students.
Supports employer engagement by identifying new contacts, recruiting employers as internship and employment sites, and securing involvement in programming and events.
Connects employers with campus stakeholders—including academic colleges, administrative units, alumni, and community members—to engage students in the recruiting and hiring process through targeted programming.
Compiles, assesses, and reports data on employer relations and development activities and events, using the results to market outcomes and services.
Coordinates site visits with campus, local, and regional employers to promote Career Development Center programs and services with an emphasis on internships and on‑campus recruiting.
Serves as a consultant to employers to expand their talent pipelines and provide engagement opportunities that foster mentoring and networking with students.
Collaborates with the Marketing Team by supporting strategic communication efforts, content development, and promotional initiatives that enhance student participation and employer engagement.
Trains and supervises Employer Relations student assistants.
Eligibility Requirements
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree and three years of professional experience, preferably in higher education or private sector recruiting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience in program and event planning with demonstrated superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
Proven effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Proven ability to establish and maintain professional relationships and build rapport with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and employer colleagues.
Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize competing tasks.
Familiarity with recruitment and hiring practices and knowledge of industry trends.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a related field.
Strong computer skills, including managing databases, platforms, and software packages.
Experience working with career services management platforms such as Handshake, customer relationship management (CRM) platforms, or related technical software.
Position Details
Location: Boone, NC
Position type: Full Time, Staff/Non‑Faculty
Work schedule: Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. with occasional evenings, early mornings, and weekends for campus‑wide career events (approximately 8–10 times a year).
Annual salary: $51,000–$53,000
Visa sponsorship: Not available; candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S.
Physical demands:
Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull event materials and equipment weighing up to 25–50 pounds.
Ability to transport and haul materials using carts, dollies, or other equipment to and from event locations.
Ability to walk frequently across campus and between venues, parking areas, and storage locations.
Ability to stand for extended periods during event setup, execution, and breakdown.
Ability to set up and break down event spaces, including arranging tables, chairs, signage, registration materials, and displays.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach when organizing supplies or retrieving stored materials.
Ability to load and unload materials from vehicles or storage areas for on‑campus and off‑campus events.
Ability to move quickly between event responsibilities in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and safety.
