Job Description
Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of nursing and health‑care duties for students and staff, including administering first aid, illness evaluations, dispensing medication, conducting screenings, maintaining records, and overseeing daily activities of health offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Administers first aid, medication, injections, and emergency care.
Plans and conducts screening programs; performs follow‑up procedures; conducts pre‑school and psychological referral screenings.
Evaluates illnesses and makes referrals to parents and medical personnel.
Oversees daily activities in health offices; on call at all offices.
Reviews and updates immunization records; prepares annual immunization report.
Maintains comprehensive up‑to‑date health records for each student and staff member.
Records and monitors communicable diseases.
Acts as a resource person for health education and staff in‑services; provides health counseling to parents, students, and staff.
Maintains a detailed daily log.
Collects kindergarten and new student physical exam and immunization records.
Monitors and assists students with special needs such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, chronic illnesses, etc.
Identifies and reports abuse.
Schedules dental programs in all grades; talks with classes about dental care.
Participates in open houses, PTO meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.
Orders supplies.
Assists with crisis intervention related to suicides, pregnancies, drug abuse, eating disorders, etc.
Performs other related essential duties as required.
Works 7 hours per day for 188 days per year (182 working days + 6 paid holidays).
Ability to teach CPR/AED classes is a plus but not required.
Minimum Training and Experience Required
Nursing degree with 1–2 years public health nursing, pediatric nursing, or related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Candidates must have completed an accredited registered‑nursing program and passed the NCLEX‑RN to meet the licensure requirements outlined in the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
