The School Nutrition Assistant - 6 hours is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to ensure all students receive the education they need to succeed.
All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission. They must embody a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Primary Function:
Assists in the preparation of various foods for cooking and serving using standardized recipes. Requires ability to read, write, communicate in English and possess basic math skills.
Working Conditions:
Food Service Environment
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate nutrition service equipment
Work in temperatures ranging from sub‑zero to extremely hot
Hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to monitor food quality and quantity
Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects
Ability to repetitively lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
Work around knives, slicers, or other sharp objects
Walk and stand on cement floor for extended periods
Exposure to cleaning chemicals in solution, aerosol, and powder/granular forms; exposure to all types of foods
Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling moderately heavy food trays, carts, materials and supplies as assigned
Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally
Bending at waist, kneeling, or crouching, stoop, climb ladder
Qualifications
Minimum: high school diploma or GED, preferred
90 Hours Substitute Training
30 Hours State Required Orientation for New Employee Course (ONE). Ongoing training/professional standards requirements.
Alternatives may be accepted for some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions
Assists in the preparation of various foods for cooking and serving using standardized recipes.
Follows recipes to ensure the cost, nutrients, yield, and customer satisfaction goals of menus are met.
Uses proper portion control measures to meet meal pattern and recipe guidelines.
Implements state and local health codes as they relate to food service.
Organized and productive. Meets work quality and quantity expectations. Accomplishes tasks accurately and timely.
Cleans equipment and small wares; stores items securely and properly.
Sweeps and cleans kitchen floors.
Serves on the serving line; meets serving schedule deadlines.
Correctly utilizes and safely operates all food service equipment.
Practices good personal hygiene and sanitation standards; follows dress code and represents department in a professional manner.
Reports faulty equipment to Food Service Manager.
Assists with checking in, dating, and recording temperatures of foods/supplies.
Assists with the unloading and storage of all foods and supplies.
Meets USDA's Professional Standards training requirements; participates in all assigned in‑service/training programs annually.
Performs necessary average lifting to 50 pounds.
Participates in program promotions/marketing activities and provides excellent customer service.
Recognizes and appropriately records a reimbursable meal for all types of service.
Serves as cashier if trained and assigned.
Implements the district procedure in handling all unusual collection procedures such as non‑revenue meals, second meals and meal charges.
Ensures adherence to good safety procedures.
Adheres to legal statutes, organizational rules and community standards.
Maintains successful working relationships with co‑workers.
Functions as a team worker.
Manifests emotional stability and maturity in all phases of job performance.
Gets along positively with staff, supervisors and visitors.
Treats confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion and avoids gossip.
Meets obligations with punctuality and maintains regular attendance.
Works without constant direction.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Seeks to improve skills and knowledge.
Uses time efficiently.
Maintains effective physical setting for optimum job performance.
Presents a professional image when representing Paulding County Schools through word, action and dress.
