Job Summary:

The School Nutrition Manager is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the School Nutrition Director, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.
All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Primary Function:

Plan, organize, supervise, and direct the food service operations at an assigned school site. Assure compliance with established safety and sanitation rules and regulations. Train, supervise, and evaluate performance of assigned staff. Knowledge of principals and methods of quantity food service preparation, serving and storage. Knowledge of health, sanitation and safety practices for handling, cooking, baking, and serving food. Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English. Possess basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and percentages) to measure, count, calculate recipes & time, etc. Cashier skills.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate nutrition service equipment
Work extended periods in temperatures ranging from sub-zero to extremely hot
Hearing and speaking to exchange information, seeing to monitor food quality and quantity
Exposure to very hot foods, equipment, and metal objects; operate equipment that poses risk, loss, or injury
Ability to repetitively lift items weighing up to 50 lbs
Working around knives, slicers, or other sharp objects
Walk and stand on cement floor for extended periods of time
Exposure to cleaning chemicals in solution, aerosol, and powder/granular forms
Exposure to all types of foods
Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling moderately heavy food trays, carts, materials and supplies as assigned by position
Reaching overhead, above shoulders and horizontally
Bending at waist, kneeling or crouching, stoop, climb ladder
Qualifications

Minimum of high school diploma or GED, required (Official transcripts are required as proof of the highest level of education)
Two years’ experience as School Nutrition Manager or (3) years school food service leadership/leadership training experience
ServSafe Certified
Meets requirements of school cafeteria manager as specified by state rules: Completion of School Nutrition Manager-In-Training Program and/or holds GADOE School Nutrition Manager certification
Demonstrates a working knowledge of state, federal and local regulations for the operation of the School Nutrition Program
Demonstrates positive attitude with students, faculty, staff, and community
Such alternatives to the above qualifications that the board may find acceptable
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
Essential Functions

Plan, organize, supervise, and direct the food service operations at an assigned school site
Supervise the preparation, serving and storage of food in accordance with established guidelines and procedures
Assure meals are served in a timely manner
Train and evaluate the performance of assigned staff
Interview and select employees and recommend for transfers, reassignments, termination and disciplinary action
Arrange employee schedules, review and monitor employee time sheets
Inspect and review the food preparation and serving areas to assure appropriate health, safety and sanitation standards are maintained
Oversee the cleaning of facilities
Plan menus according to established price schedules, portion control and standardized recipes, generate and distribute menus
Estimate and requisition food quantities, equipment and supplies needed
Receive, inspect, verify and accept delivery of food and supplies
Oversee and participate in daily and periodic inventories
Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold menu items assuring proper temperature of foods
Observe quality and quantity of food served according to established
Assure accuracy of daily cash receipts, count and wrap money, prepare bank deposits, account for student and adult meals, prepare daily report of meals served
Assure proper distribution control and security of cash and meal tickets
Open and close cafeteria being responsible for turning on and off lights, stoves, ovens and other kitchen equipment
Assure proper temperatures of freezers and refrigerators
Lead and participate in portion control and the wrapping, assembly and arranging of foods
Prepare and maintain various manual or automated records and reports related to daily cash receipts, sales, orders, inventory, personnel and assigned activities
Operate various office equipment including a calculator, fax machine, copier, computer and assigned software
Operate a variety of equipment and machines used in a school cafeteria
Communicate with District personnel and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues of concern related to menus, inventory, and assigned activities
Assure proper cleanliness and maintenance of equipment and supplies used in the cafeteria, arranging equipment repairs as necessary
Ensures adherence to good safety procedures
Adheres to legal statutes, organizational rules and community standards
Presents a professional image when representing Paulding County Schools through word, action and dress
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
